1.We usually use imperatives in many different situations:
a. give directions and instructions
- Turn right at the light.
- Go straight for two blocks.
- Repeat ten times in each position.
b. give orders or commands
- Stand up!
- Don't leave!
- Stop talking!
c. make an informal invitation
- Come visit me.
- Study with us this morning.
- Have a piece of this pie. It's awesome.
d. give advice or make suggestions
- Talk to your mother about it.
- Always take your umbrella with you.
- Don't exercise when you feel very tired.
e. ask favors
- Please read the text.
- Read the text, please.
f. give warnings
- Don't skip!
- Be careful!
- Keep away!
2. The imperative form is the same in both the singular and the plural.
